The Bun Truck, Santa Monica

When I went to visit my sister in Santa Monica, we had our whole Saturday planned out: breakfast at the hotel, shopping at the Third Street Promenade (and Brandy Melville!), beach / Santa Monica Pier, lunch at Umami Burger, shopping at Fred Segal, rest, and finally, dinner with my friend Kyley. We managed to do all that but somehow, in between shopping round one and the beach / pier, we found ourselves ordering from a food truck we walked past. Since Lana took all the pictures (and in honor of her leaving for New Zealand this week) I decided to ask her to write eyechow’s first ever guest post about it. You can check out her own blog at www.boara.tumblr.com

Bun Mood The Bun Truck

Val and I basically threw our diets to the wind when we spotted the bun truck and realized that it sold duck-fat fries. They had a little sign with “Bun Moods” up, and Val and I decided our bun-mood is hungry (which is also all of our other moods, always) and we got a Dweji* Bun and the Duck Fat Fries.

The Bun Truck Menu

The Dweji bun tasted just like a bao bun. It was interesting to have a mix of Asian-style pork and tzatziki sauce, which is Greek, but somehow it worked and Val and I finished the bun in about five seconds.

We then took our time with the duck-fat fries, which also had thyme, again, a weird and super good mix. We managed to finish the whole thing, even though we had already sampled stuff from an England-themed bakery and had our free breakfast at the hotel (yeah right, as if we’d ever pass up on anything free), so you know it’s good.

Eyechow The Bun Truck

I would definitely recommend the Bun Truck, especially if you like fusion food. Mediterranean and Asian… who knew?

Note: Dweji is Korean spicy stir-fried pork
